The Special Gift

Updated: Jan 1, 2019

Hi Everyone!

I finally finished decorating my house for the holidays and I was just putting on the finishing touches, when one small item made me stop and think of a very special memory of long ago. My husband and I have been married for 36 years, and I still have the special gift he gave me on our very first Christmas. We were very young, and money was tight especially since we were expecting our first child very soon.

We both agreed that we would not exchange gifts that year, so we could make sure we had enough money in savings to prepare for the new arrival. On Christmas Eve, we were on our way to visit family when suddenly, I started having labor pains. I wasn't due until early January, so I decided to just ignore them.

The next day was Christmas and I awoke with a terrible backache. I made my way out to the kitchen to start breakfast, when I noticed a small package sitting on the counter. I picked it up and noticed there was a small message attached to the bow.

It read:

This is a very special gift, that you can never see. The reason it's so special is it's just for you from me.

Whenever you are happy or even feeling blue, you only have to hold this gift and know I think of you.

You never can unwrap it. Please leave the ribbon tied. Just hold the box close to your heart. It's filled with love inside.

My eyes filled with tears as I held the small present in the palm of my hand. Nothing could mean more to me than this sentimental gift of love. I turned around, and my wonderful husband was standing there, with a big smile and a look of tenderness on his face. I knew I would never forget this moment for as long as I lived.

The very next day, our son was born. It was a very special Christmas for us, not just because it was our first one together as husband and wife, but also because we became a family.

I will always treasure this small gift, and I keep it in a very special place all year round. Even after 36 years, it still brings tears to my eyes and reminds me of our once humble beginnings.

This to me, is where it all began and represents the true meaning of Christmas!

Wishing you all a lovely weekend!

Love,

Susan
